He became acquainted with Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo in Hong Kong while the latter was in exile after the Truce of Biak-na-Bato. After returning to the Philippines, he was named aide-de-camp of Aguinaldo because of his knowledge of the English Language.

When the seat of the Revolutionary Government was transferred to Malolos, Ziacita was commissioned as lieutenant and subsequently prompted to captain at the start of the filipino-American War. In May 1899, he was one among the delegates which conferred with the American on the suspension of hostilities.
