NBI to investigate
slaying of Chairman Amante
The National Bureau of Investigation was requested by Laguna Governor
Joey Lina to investigate the dastardly killing of Barangay Chairman Exequiel
Amante of Brgy. Del Remedio, San Pablo City.
Lina in his request to NBI Director Santiago Toledo appealed for immediate
resolution of the killing so that justice will be served against those
who shot and caused the assasination of Amante.
Based on initial police reports, Amante was shot with Cal. 45 pistol
by two unidentified assailants at about 10:30 a.m., May 2, while on board
a barangay patrol jeep escorting a funeral. The suspects fled on board
a red Honda Civic car with no plate number driven by another unidentified
Also shot was Amante’s companion Casiano Gonzales who also died in
the hospital after several hours.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Delia Torres Amante, widow of the slain barangay chairman
denied reports his husband was a political leader of San Pablo City incumbent
mayor Vicente Amante of the Lakas NUCD party.
The widow clarified that Amante although a relative of the mayor was
infact critical of the incumbent mayor’s administration. The slain chairman
was against the dynasty being imposed by the mayor whose brother is running
for the vice mayoralty position. Mrs. Delia Amante said his husband was
supporting another candidate for vice mayor, Atty. Andy Castillo.
Mrs. Amante also stressed that his husband was also a close political
leader of Laguna Governor Joey Lina. In fact she added at the time his
husband was shot, he was wearing a "Joey Lina" T-shirt and a
campaign vest provided by the governor.
" Ang aking asawa ay sumusuporta sa iba’t-ibang kandidato mula
sa iba’t-ibang partido, pero hindi siya leader ni Amante o ng LAKAS NUCD",
kalaban nga namin si Mayor Amante bakit ipinalalabas na kami ay leader
niya, bakit nililinlang ang tao; may dapay bang itago sa katotohanan?"
the widow added.
Barangay Del Remedio is the biggest barangay in San Pablo City and
now as one of the most peaceful barangays because of Chairman Amante’s
