Policies, Rules And Regulations

Every student enrolled at MSC Institute of Technology is at school to get an education and to develop himself/ herself intellectually, culturally, morally and socially. He/ She is therefore expected to act as a mature individual on and off campus, showing respect to proper authorities, for the rights of his/her fellowmen, and for his/her role and position in the academic community.

In order to maintain a conducive learning atmosphere for their common good, each student is hereby enjoined to follow certain norms.

Uniform

Students have to wear the prescribed uniform at all times, when in campus and when requested for official off-campus school activities. The school uniform should not be worn for any other purpose or occasion. Each student should conduct himself/ herself neatly at all times and at all places.

For male student - High School

  1. Prescribed short-sleeved white polo with MSC seal
  2. White undershirt
  3. Black long pants
  4. Black leather shoes with socks
  5. School ID

For male student - Tech Voc

  1. Prescribed short-sleeved cream polo with MSC pin
  2. White undershirt
  3. Black long pants
  4. Black leather shoes with socks
  5. School ID

For female student - Highschool

  1. Prescribed white blouse with MSC seal
  2. Prescribed brown checkered pleated skirt/ skorts
  3. Black shoes with socks
  4. School ID

For female student - Tech Voc

  1. Prescribed cream blouse with MSC pin
  2. Prescribed brown checkered skirt
  3. Black shoes with at least 1 inch heels
  4. School ID

For Caregiver students

  1. Prescribed MSC scrub suit
  2. Prescribed MSC Caregiving t-shirt & blue jeans
  3. School ID

For PE classes

  1. Prescribed MSC t-shirt
  2. Jogging pants
  3. Sneakers/ rubber shoes

The PE uniform is worn during designated PE class days with the School ID.

Wednesdays are "wash days" for tech-voc students. Regular students are to come to school in MSC t-shirt and blue jeans with School ID.

Students of short courses should wear only proper and modest clothes in school. Shorts, tank tops, low neckline and backless tops are not appropriate clothes for school.

Identification Cars (IDs) shall be worn by the students at all times with the uniform inside the school premises. Lost IDs shall be immediately reported and replaced.

Male students are not allowed to wear earrings.

Female students may choose an appropriate hairstyle for school; Hair length of male students must not go beyond the top side of their collars and should not cover the ears or eyebrows. Color-dyed hair is not allowed.

Jewelries worn must only be minimal.

Students who are not in proper uniform may sit-in the class but shall be considered absent unless with valid excuse signed by the Guidance Coordinator.

Attendace

Regular Classes

  1. Regular school days are from Monday to Friday.
  2. High School students must come on time for the Flag Ceremony at 7:00 a.m. (or at specified time) every Monday. Late comers shall be asked to submit a written explanation to the Principal.
  3. Morning classes start at 7:20 a.m.; last classes end at 8:00 p.m.
  4. Physical Education classes and other subjects may be scheduled on Saturdays depending on the class schedule.

Class Attendance

  1. Students are required to attend classes regularly.
  2. A student who has been absent shall present a letter of excuse noted by the Principal/ Guidance Coordinator, before he/ she can be accepted in class.
  3. Students whose accumulated absences exceed 20% of the number of school days without any valid reason shall be given a failing grade and given no credit for the course or subject.
  4. A student who leaves the class and does not come back or comes back only at the end of the period shall be considered absent from the class.
  5. Absence from class has an effect on the student’s grade when quizzes, recitation, or exams are given during his absence. Students can make-up for work missed during absences only with valid excuse. Parent/ guardian conference will be required.
  6. A student is considered absent when he/ she is not in class; when he/ she has been tardy for three times; and when he/ she has cut class twice.

Tardiness

  1. A student is marked late/ tardy when he/ she is not inside the classroom at the start of the class unless there is valid reason.
  2. Late comers may be accepted in class after proper explanation of his/ her tardiness to his/ her teacher and classmates.
  3. Repeated tardiness will affect the student’s grades. Students cannot make-up for work missed. Parent/ guardian conference will be required.

Cutting Classes

  1. A student is considered to have cut a class if he/ she is known to be inside the campus during class period and he/ she does not attend his/ her classes.

Returning to Class After an Absence

  1. A student who has been absent shall present an excuse letter from his/ her parent or guardian to the Principal or Guidance Coordinator. The Principal or Guidance Coordinator shall indicate whether the absence is excused or unexcused.
  2. For Excused Absences: Students may be given the right to make-up for missed lessons/ exams.
  3. For Unexcused Absences: Students are not given the right to make-up for missed lessons/ exams. Absences due to suspension are considered unexcused absences.

Shortened Periods

  1. Shortened periods are declared by the Principal when faculty or special meetings are held wherein the 60-minutes classes are reduced to 40 minutes. Schedule of classes during shortened periods shall be posted in the bulletin board.

Suspension of Classes

  1. Classes are suspended during inclement weather such as typhoons and other calamities under the following conditions:
  2. Signal No. 1 - Suspension of classes for elementary
    Signal No. 2 - Suspension of classes for elementary and high school
    Signal No. 3 - Suspension of classes in all levels from elementary to College is automatic
  3. Official announcements on radio and television are observed by the institution.
  4. Parents have the ultimate responsibility for determining whether their children should go to school, even if no order for suspension of classes has been issued, if they feel that traveling to and from school will put their children at risk.
  5. Special holidays are announced through the Office of the Principal.

Discipline

On Student Activities

  1. Only recognized student organizations/ associations are allowed in the school. Activities or projects should have the approval of the Principal. Recognized student organizations should submit their respective program of activities to the Principal and copy furnished to the Guidance Office and the Student Council Office.
  2. No student may represent the school in outside activities without proper authorization of the Principal.
  3. Reports on a student’s indecent or undesirable behavior inside or outside the school premises would automatically bring about an investigation to preserve the integrity of the school.
  4. Collections contrary to law or the DepEd/ TESDA regulations are prohibited.

Inside the School

  1. The administrative officials, faculty members, and the service personnel are conduits of the students in the pursuance of their legitimate aspirations in acquiring knowledge and professional skills. Students, therefore, should observe politeness, respect, and deference in all their dealings with administrative officials, faculty members, service personnel, as well as their fellow students.
  2. Students shall not entertain outsiders inside the classroom or anywhere in the campus except for valid reason and with the permission of the Principal/ Administrative Head.
  3. High School students shall not be allowed to leave the school premises during class hours/ recess period without permission from the Office of the Principal.
  4. The bulletin board may be used for official notices. Student Officers may be authorized to post announcements in the bulletin board after gaining permission from the administrative office.
  5. Announcements posted in the bulletin boards require the effect of law within 24 hours upon posting. No unauthorized person may write or post in the bulletin board. Tampering with posted notices is prohibited.
  6. Cheating, falsification of signature and records, stealing and lying are subject to disciplinary actions.
  7. Bladed weapons, firearms, explosives, pornographic materials, alcoholic drinks, and prohibited drugs are not allowed inside the campus.
  8. Drinking liquor within the campus or entering under the influence of liquor is a serious offense.
  9. Smoking or gambling is not allowed inside the school premises.
  10. Profane or obscene language, either oral or written should not be used in communicating with any faculty member or any authorized school personnel or another student. Obscene gestures, signs, pictures or publications are also prohibited.
  11. Group movements, such as passing through corridors, should be done with the minimum of noise, so as not to disturb on-going classes.
  12. Eating inside the classroom, library, and laboratory is not allowed. Snacks/ meals shall be taken at the canteen during recess period or at such time that students are not engaged in classroom activities.

Outside the School

  1. A student should be aware of his responsibilities in upholding and in projecting a good image of his school.
  2. A student should keep away from places of ill-repute and should refrain from joining activities destructive of his/ her character and the school.
  3. Students are prohibited from using the name of the school in any unauthorized off-campus activities such as excursions, picnics, parties, and the like. The school shall not be held liable for injury, accident or death which may result from the unsanctioned activity.

On the Use of School Facilities

  1. School facilities and equipment are provided for the educational benefit of the students, such that they should be proud of it. Every student shall help the school preserve and maintain the facilities.
  2. Students shall refrain from making any marks, writings, carvings, or the like, on desks, walls, restrooms, or any part of the building or the school campus. Any act which will cause damage to school property shall be considered an act of vandalism and subject to disciplinary action.
  3. Observance of cleanliness and neatness of school facilities such as the classrooms, laboratories, corridors and restrooms, and proper use of equipment are required at all times for a conducive educational atmosphere.

Disciplinary Guidelines

Students violating the norms set forth in this Student Manual shall be subject to disciplinary sanction. Imposition of disciplinary measures shall be guided accor-dingly by the Manual of Regulations of Private Schools and shall be implemented upon the approval of the School President. Disciplinary measures shall be commen-surate with the nature and gravity of the offense.

Disciplinary infractions are categorized into major and minor offenses.

Classification Of Major Offenses

  1. Gross misconduct, discourtesy or disrespect in words or deed to any member of the faculty, administration or non-teaching staff.
  2. Dishonesty, stealing or an attempt thereof, or cheating during examinations and in other course requirements
  3. Hazing
  4. Carrying or possession of firearms, deadly weapons, and explosives
  5. Commission of any act of immorality, display or distribution of pornographic materials
  6. Illegal possession or use of prohibited drugs and chemicals
  7. Entering the school premises in a state of intoxication and drinking alcohol within the campus
  8. Hooliganism, gambling and extortion of any form within the campus
  9. Vandalism or destruction of school properties
  10. Direct assault upon members of the faculty, administration, or non-teaching staff
  11. Instigating or leading illegal strikes or similar concerted activities resulting in the stoppage of classes
  12. Threatening or intimidating another or causing slight physical injuries within the campus and school extensions
  13. Forging or falsification and tampering of official records or documents of any kind
  14. Securing or using forged school records, forms and documents
  15. Fighting on campus and during off-campus activities
  16. Habitual commission of minor offenses

Classification Of Minor Offenses

  1. Entering the campus without an ID card or using someone else’s ID card
  2. Disobeying school regulations such as littering in corridors and classrooms, eating during class sessions, smoking inside the classrooms and lobby
  3. Cutting classes
  4. Failure to wear the prescribed uniform or attire
  5. Wearing of earrings by male students
  6. Behavior unbecoming of an MSC student
  7. Insubordination or lack of due respect towards authorities or members of the faculty

Sanctions and Procedures

  1. Minor Offenses - penalty of admonition, reprimand, or warning
  2. Second Offense - probation
  3. Third Offense - suspension or expulsion
  4. Major Offense - suspension or expulsion
